Course Description
Thinking of a career in the foodservice industry or looking to develop your culinary skills? In the first half of the course, explore basic cooking and knife skills while preparing you for entry into the culinary world. Discover the history of food culture, food service, and global cuisines while learning about food science principles and preservation. Prepare for your future by building the professional, communication, leadership, and teamwork skills that are crucial to a career in the culinary arts.

Did you know that baking is considered a science? In the second half of the course, discover how to elevate your culinary skills through the creation of stocks, soups, sauces, and learn baking techniques. Examine sustainable food practices and the benefits of nutrition while maintaining taste, plating, and presentation to truly wow your guests. Explore careers in the culinary arts for ways to channel your newfound passion!

Throughout this course, students will develop both the technical knowledge and professional skills needed for success in the workplace. In addition to exploring career-specific concepts and practices, students will reflect on workplace safety, communication, professionalism, customer service, reliability, career advancement, and lifelong learning. Students will examine the responsibilities associated with working in the field, evaluate the qualities of successful professionals, and consider how their skills, interests, and goals align with potential career opportunities. These experiences help students build career readiness skills that are valuable in any profession while preparing them for future education, training, and employment.

- Full Credit Equivalent courses must be completed by your school's end date and within 9 months
- 1/2 Credit Equivalent courses must be completed by your school's end date and within 4 months
- 1/4 Credit Equivalent courses must be completed by your school's end date and within 2 months

ABBREVIATED COURSES - A shortened course intended for students seeking to make-up failed courses or recover credits.
- Abbreviated Full Credit Equivalent courses must be completed by your school's end date and within 60 days.
- Abbreviated 1/2 and 1/4 Credit Equivalent courses must be completed by your school's end date and within 30 days.

PARTIAL COURSES - A partial version of an online course intended for students temporarily away from classes (i.e. Home Bound Instruction, In/Out-of School Suspension).
