Course Description This course is designed to provide a basic understanding of fundamental concepts and their applications while reinforcing and developing skills essential for continued success as life long learners. Multicultural Literature focuses on world literature by and about people of diverse ethnic backgrounds. Students explore themes of linguistic and cultural diversity by comparing, contrasting, and analyzing, writing styles and universal themes. Students will be reading some of the greatest literary works from all over the globe. Students will read a variety of literature. Students write expository and persuasive essays in response to various readings, including: The Mule Bone, The Underground Railroad, 'The Lion, the Hyena, and the Rabbit', The Autobiography of an Indian Princess, The Narrative Life of Frederick Douglas, An Account of the Slave Trade on the Coast of Africa, and various poems and excerpts. Students will also write a research paper, create a presentation, and participate in discussion forums.
