Course Description This course is specifically designed for students from the state of New York. This is an honors level course that challenges students with capstone analysis, evaluation, and creativity. Students are required to complete honors capstone assignments in each semester of the course, involving research, creation, and/or the extensive use of multimedia. This course will cover the study involving our earth and space themes, our planet's properties, weather and climatology, as well as provide a macro view of the universe through the basic physics of galaxies, star properties, and basic earth chemistry. The student will examine our solar system making observations of events and phenomena of the facts and principles which are designed to encourage critical thinking skills. Emphasis is on the properties and layers of the atmosphere, the Earth's moon, the natural elements and their properties, various geological events, sunspots, satellites, space flight, Apollo missions, oceanography, and natural resources. This course contains comparative virtual labs. This course is correlated to NY state standards, including topics covered in the NY state Regents exam.
