Course Description This course is specifically designed for students from the state of New York. This is an honors level course that challenges students with capstone analysis, evaluation, and creativity. Students are required to complete honors capstone assignments in each semester of the course, involving research, creation, and/or the extensive use of multimedia. The objectives of this course are to allow the student to recognize personal safety, distinguish between mixtures and solutions, calculate atomic mass, identify positive and negative charges, write balanced chemical equations, calculate chemical reactions using standard measurement techniques and the mole, understand the behavior of gases, fluids, and to classify subatomic particles. The student will be able to identify universal symbols utilized in this field as well as the pH scale as it applies to various substances affecting everyday life. Students will also have the opportunity to utilize laboratory simulations to reinforce the major concepts of this course. This course contains comparative virtual labs. This course is correlated to NY state standards, including topics covered in the NY state Regents exam.
