Course Description
AP® French Language and Culture is designed to prepare students to communicate efficiently in French using the three modes of communication (interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational) defined in the Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century. This course is conducted almost exclusively in French and students are encouraged to also use French outside the classroom. A variety of authentic audio, visual, audiovisual, written, and print resources will further the students’ abilities to enhance their understanding of the francophone cultures studied, make connections between topics, compare their native languages and cultures with the French language and cultures, and use French in real-life settings.

While improving in the three modes of communication, students use an extensive range of authentic francophone material including, but not limited to letters, articles, audio sources, websites, books, and videos. By using authentic sources, students not only improve their linguistic skills, but make real-world connections, further their understanding of different cultures (including their own), and use French in a real way.

The course is based on the six units of required content in the AP® French Language and Culture Course and Exam Description outlined by College Board. These are Families in Different Societies, The Influence of Language and Culture on Identity, Influences of Beauty and Art, How Science and Technology Affect Our Lives, Factors That Impact the Quality of Life, and Environmental, Political, and Societal Challenges.

ALL STUDENT WORK must be completed by your school’s end date AND no later than JUNE 30th, as the CollegeBoard disables all AP Classroom access for the month of July.

This course does not include registration for the AP Exam Offering. Students planning to take the AP exam are required to register and sit locally for the AP Exam.
