Course Description This course is designed to provide a basic understanding of fundamental concepts and their applications while reinforcing and developing skills essential for continued success as life long learners. U.S. History I begins with an overview of the exploration of the New World. The birth of America and the framework of the Constitution move the course forward through the politics, settlements, and growth of a nation. This course continues through to the end of the American Civil War. US History I highlights the English Colonies, Articles of Confederation, U.S. Constitution, Louisiana Purchase, War of 1812, The Age of Jackson, Slavery, and the Civil War. U.S. History I is designed to bring the history of America to life by incorporating the various themes associated with the social sciences.
