Course Description This course is designed to provide a basic understanding of fundamental concepts and their applications while reinforcing and developing skills essential for continued success as lifelong learners. Language Arts II MS develops students' reading and writing skills using a variety of texts and literature. Students will read and explore different genres of literature while learning about literary devices. Students learn to identify common mistakes and correct them by reviewing words that are commonly misspelled, have multiple meanings and homophones. This course also reviews sentence structure and parts of speech and then students practice these skills by writing various essays ranging from persuasive, descriptive, journaling, and letter writing. Finally, students will also create presentations and write a research paper as well as reviewing sentence structure and different genres of writing. All essays will be graded using the holistic scoring rubric. Students will also engage in discussion forums to reflect on literary topics.
